Am I at risk? - Blood Pressure

With many of us unaware that we may have high blood pressure it's important to understand the risks and how we can reduce them.

If left untreated the condition can increase your chances of suffering a stroke, heart attack or damage to other vital organs.

As you get older you're more likely to have high blood pressure, but there are lifestyle factors which could also put you at a higher risk. If any of the following apply to you, it's a good idea to visit your local pharmacy for a blood pressure test:

  • You have a family history of high blood pressure or early heart disease
  • Eat a diet which is high in saturated fats or salt
  • Drink an excessive amount of alcohol
  • You're of Asian or Afro-Caribbean descent
  • Take little exercise or physical activity
  • You're overweight
  • Being a heavy smoker
