'Healthy' drinks warning
Most people realise that some soft drinks are full of sugar – non-diet colas, for instance, can contain up to seven or eight spoonfuls.
But some drinks that are marketed as 'healthy' juices or flavoured waters can be high in sugar too – in some cases, there's as much sugar in a so-called 'healthy' soft drink as three Krispy Kreme doughnuts.
"Many manufacturers 'big up' their healthy content of vitamins or fruit, but cleverly disguise the fact that their drinks have been sweetened with added pure sugar," says medical nutritionist Dr Sarah Brewer.
So how can you make sure what you're drinking is as healthy as possible? According to Dr Brewer, look for drinks made from 100 percent natural ingredients that clearly state 'no added sugar'. And if they include one of your five-a-day, that's an added bonus.
