How often do you have a hangover?

Most people enjoy a tipple or two, but there's nothing enjoyable about having a hangover.

Yet according to a recent survey the average person in this country spends more than five years of their life feeling like death warmed up after a night's boozing.

Released by a soft drinks manufacturer, the figures suggest the average British man and women has at least one hangover a week while aged between 21 and 38, plus 12 more each year following special occasions such as birthdays, weddings and other parties.

The good news is that the older you get, the fewer hangovers you have to suffer (45 per year between the ages of 38 and 46 and 23 per year when you're between 46 and 60). It still works out at an average of almost 23 days each year spent nursing a hangover though. And that doesn't sound like much fun at all.

Don't suffer a hangover in silence, however. Ask your pharmacist to recommend a hangover remedy so that you're prepared next time you have one too many. There again, you could just try drinking more sensibly and skip hangovers altogether...
