I always get flu this time of year, which means I lose money from time off work sick. I work in a nursing home so I have to be careful I don't pass any nasty bugs onto the residents. For me flu just means a week in bed, but it can kill an older person.
I'd heard from a friend you can now get flu vaccinations at pharmacies, so I rang them up to check and popped in at lunch time.
When I got there they gave me a quick questionnaire to fill in. It was only about 10 questions and just asked for general things like if I had allergies or if injections made me feel dizzy (they don't, but they do make me a bit nervous!).
After that the pharmacist called me into the private booth for the flu jab (you need a different one for swine flu they said). The jab was just a quick pin prick and didn't hurt at all. Then I had to wait for about ten minutes just to check I was ok before I went back to work.
The flu jab was quick and easy and means I don't need to worry about getting flu for the next six months. Just popping into the pharmacy at lunchtime is much easier than going to the doctors. I'll definitely go back to the pharmacy for another flu jab next winter.
