Skin supplements to help your eczema
Eating a healthy, balanced diet - and avoiding any foods that might trigger an eczema flare-up - will help keep your skin in good condition.
You could also try the following supplements, which may boost your skin's health (ask your pharmacist to recommend the right ones for you):
Many nutritional therapists believe eczema is caused by a deficiency in essential fatty acids. While you can get these from food, you may also want to consider a fatty acid supplement to boost your levels: try an omega-3 fatty acid supplement, such as fish oils. Or if you prefer a vegetarian version, try flaxseed or hempseed oil.
Antioxidant vitamins such as vitamins A, C and E may be helpful in treating dry skin. Vitamin C, for instance, may also be useful as it is an antihistamine, and may help reduce any itching and inflammation. Do not take vitamin A supplements if you're pregnant (or about to become pregnant), however.
If you're taking an essential fatty acid supplement, you may want to combine it with zinc, as zinc helps your body use essential fatty acids. Zinc is also considered to help with healing. However do not take more than the recommended dosage, as too much zinc can deplete your body of other essential minerals.
