Chlamydia is a common sexually transmitted disease (STD) that can often go undetected in men and woman for months or even years. If left untreated it may cause serious long term fertility and health problems. Any sexually active adults are at risk; however, if you do not practice safe sex the risk is greater. The more sexual partners you have the more at risk you are of infection.

Is it free?

Chlamydia screening programmes run through Pharmacy may be private services and therefore paid for by you the consumer. However, some pharmacies operate in funded programmes (in some Primary Care Trusts). Please use our pharmacy locator to see what pharmacies in your area offer which service.

How do I get screened?

The screening service is a confidential and convenient way to ensure you do not have one of the most common bacterial sexually transmitted diseases. A test kit, containing everything you need to complete the test, can be purchased through pharmacies registered to provide the service. You will need to send off the urine sample to the laboratory as detailed with the kit. Results will then be sent to either you or your nominated pharmacy.

What happens if it is positive?

Following a consultation with a Pharmacist, appropriate treatment will be provided or advice given.
