Cervical screening numbers are declining, says charity

It's just over three years since the reality TV star Jade Goody died of cervical cancer. However according to the charity Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust, the so-called 'Jade Goody effect' – that is, the surge in the number of women having cervical screening after Jade's death – has already dwindled, with an estimated one in five women in the UK currently not taking up the test when invited (or one in three women aged 35 and under).

Smokers urged to take the leap this No Smoking Day

On March 14, 2012 – this year's No Smoking Day – a million smokers or more are expected to try and quit their habit. According to the No Smoking Day charity, the event has already helped a great many smokers in the UK to quit for good (each year around 250,000 people quit on No Smoking Day, with 6,000 managing to give up permanently).
